A New Tradition

In an earlier post I showed you my fabric that I purchased in TX.

This fabric is now pillowcases to start a new tradition in our family. (Trina's idea) Each family will get one. Then when someone has a birthday they get to use the pillowcase for that month or week or whatever depending on how many birthdays they have in that month. Here they are in a bad picture!

I wrote: Happy Birthday Love Nana along the edge.

I followed a tutorial here. It was VERY easy! I hope this is a tradition that will be carried on through generations.

In My Sewing Room

I spent a little time sewing today....FINALLY!! This was our weekend to relax. It seems like we've been swamped since the beginning of November, and this weekend we didn't have anything we HAD to do.

While we were in Texas over Christmas we went to Amarillo and stopped at two quilt shops. One was Sisters' Scraps. I always like this store, and it was just hard to decide what to take home with me. I ended up with this short stack of fabric.

Trina requested a birthday pillowcase for her family. She wants to start the tradition of using it during the birthday month or so. That will be finished soon.
I also picked up a couple of patterns--all Christmas related. I want to make some of these just for me to be finished for next Christmas.

Our next stop was Quilted Bliss. There I found some fabric to finish a fall quilt. The quilt is made from a fat quarter of Awesome by Sandy Gervais. While the fabric I bought isn't Awesome, it is by Sandy Gervais, and the colors blend very well.

I also purchased this calendar. Unfortunately it doesn't fit in my calendar holder. :(

Fortunately it celebrates Christmas the year round, which I love. It also includes patterns for each month's picture, so it was a twofer!

And this is what is on my design wall right now. That would be one completed table runner, and one I'm still looking at. I have actually had some design help from Clara at the bottom!

I will have a finish to show in a day or two. Have a good week.

A Fall Project

In the fall we had one last project to do before the snow and cold settled in. I shouldn't say "we" because I didn't really help. One day some of the kids came to help. First came a little discussion and planning.

A few cousins had a good time watching Grandpa on the skid loader.

Poor Nate had to do the work while the men watched! Apparently they don't know about the child labor laws.

We enjoyed a great fire when we celebrated Thanksgiving.

Come back in the spring as we have more plans for this area. I foresee many hours of enjoyment sitting around the fire.

Christmas Gifts

I did make several Christmas gifts for the youngest Grandkids. For the three year olds( or almost) I made crayon bags.

Each bag contained a coloring book, sticker book, and crayons on the side.

I later added a roll up chalkboard and chalk. I had to add it later because I went to town to buy the chalkboard fabric and forgot! Does anyone else do that? I used a free tutorial, but I can't remember which one. Google it and you'll find a lot to choose from.

For the one year old and under I made big taggie blocks.

I also put bells inside so they make some noise.

I used a tutorial from here.

I love watching the kids enjoying the things I make them!

2012 Projects

These are most of my completed projects for 2012.  I also completed a quilt for Mom that I don't have a photo of, (duh me) and several taggie blankets.

I didn't really have a goal for 2012, so I don't think I did too badly.  I also have:
*two quilts waiting to be quilted
*one table runner waiting to be quilted
*two quilts with the squares done just waiting to be sewn together
*22 of 24 (I think) squares done for a BOM

I also dealt with an almost new defective sewing machine for the first six months of the year, and then purchased a new one (different brand) in June.  (LONG story)

If you're interested in looking at anything closer you can click HERE.  This will show you larger photos and take you to the blog entry which most often gives more information.

I'm not a person that is good at having unfinished projects, so my first goal for 2013 is to finish everything I started in 2012!
